The City of Flatonia utilizes the City's Police Department to exercise and carry out the enforcement criteria of violations contained within the City of Flatonia Code of Ordinances.  In most cases, the monthly review of the city results in a "Your Cooperation is Requested" letter sent to the property owner where the violation of City Code is observed.

Items that require code enforcement compliance with the associated article in the Code of Ordinances include:

1. Grass/Weeds to be mowed/shredded -6.03

2. Brush to be cleared -6.03

3. Trees to be trimmed -8.06

4. Lumber/Building materials to be removed -8.05.001 & 13.05.011

5. Scrap metal to be removed -8.05.001

6. Rubbish/Trash to be removed -6.02 & 6.03

7. Concrete/Rocks to be removed -8.05.001

8. Appliances/Equipment to be removed -8.04 & 8.05

9. Tires to be removed -8.05.001

10. Stagnant water to be removed -6.03

11. Animal/Livestock/Fowl Complaint (other than disturbance complaint) -2.01

12. Junked vehicle/trailer – 8.07.003

In most cases, property owners have 14 days to rectify the situation before the City takes further action, which may include fines, property maintenance by the City billed to the owner, or property liens by the City against the property owner in violation of City Code.
